Post-film discussion on Crowdcast 8.45-9.30pm
It’s January, it’s lockdown, and whilst everything might be looking a bit bleak we invite you to join us – digitally – to share a film together.
This month we would like to share with you a film we last screened at the Stove in 2016, Dummy Jim.
“Dummy Jim weaves fiction, documentary, animation and archive to explore the eccentric adventures of profoundly deaf Scots long-distance cyclist James Duthie who hailed from the close-knit Aberdeenshire fishing community of Cairnbulg and Inverallochy. In 1951, he set out on a lone cycling tour to Morocco.. After three months of pedalling, he reached the Arctic Circle.
12 years in the making, Hulse crafts a multi-layered memorial to a quietly determined maverick and the community that shaped him, with present-day village inhabitants emerging as creative participants.”
The film has now been made available for all to view thanks to the generosity of the director, Matt Hulse, and was released on Youtube on midnight, 31stDecember to coincide with the UK’s official departure from the EU. We are really excited that filmmaker and director Matt Hulse will be joining us for the post film discussion, so make sure to tune in at 8.45pm!
The film includes subtitles.
About Reel to Real Cinema At Home
As we look to explore how we can use collective film watching at home as a means to gather, share ideas and connect we’ve been delving through the vastness of the internet to source interesting and relevant stories for now, on film.
Reel to Real continues to share a film and discussion evening on the second Friday of the month online, until we are able to return safely to our High Street home in The Stove, Dumfries.
