DESCRIPTION:This April\, the Wild Goose Festival and Dumfries and Galloway move together; alongside 40\,000 barnacle geese taking off on their extraordinary journey. Collectively\, an 80\,000\,000 mile effort from the Solway\, in south-west Scotland\, to Svalbard\, north of the Arctic Circle. DESCRIPTION:This month at Reel to Real\, entertainment\, working class culture\, human connection\, the power of pop and the state of Britain align in a funny\, irreverent road movie that follows an ageing pop star as he chases one more chart success. \n\n\n\nAbout the Film \n\n\n\nWhat happens when you’ve created the worst hit song ever – at least according to the music press? What comes after fleeting fame\, and what does it mean to grow old still chasing a dream? \n\n\n\nKim Hopkins’ moving and funny follow up to her documentary A BUNCH OF AMATEURS features former pop star Dene Michael as he clings to the remnants of fame he once had as a member of 1980s novelty pop group Black Lace. \n\n\n\nThe band’s universally known hit Agadoo – both beloved and hated by many\, and the high or low point of any party – is what Dene’s best known for. Now\, performing for a dwindling\, ageing audience in some of the UK’s most deprived seaside towns and cities\, he’s eager to press on with his music career and get out from under the legacy of the Black Lace songbook. \n\n\n\nSTILL PUSHING PINEAPPLES follows Dene\, his spirited 89-year-old mum Anne\, and his sassy girlfriend Hayley across Britain and the Costa del Sol in this unmistakably British road movie. \n\n\n\nFilm Trailer \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Reel to Real Cinema \n\n\n\nReel to Real Cinema is a monthly film space in the Stove Café\, featuring an eclectic mixture of conversational films – from artist made shorts to feature length documentaries\, locally made to international cinema. A space for discussion and thought-provoking films\, you are welcome to join us after the film for a short discussion about the themes from this month’s selection. The Stove Café will be open from 5.30pm – 6:45pm with a pre-film dinner option alongside hot drinks and cakes.
