We’re looking for new members to join the board of one of Scotland’s most exciting community-based projects. The Stove is a creatively-led network which uses art in all its forms to build connections and opportunities within communities.
Our vision for the Stove is that we will “help make Dumfries and our region a place where communities thrive through collaboration, enterprise and risk-taking. A place where everyone is supported to be involved creatively and take part in the celebration and making of our culture.”
We use the arts and creativity to encourage, to gather, educate and bring life back to Dumfries and the wider region. We see the arts not as something solely for an ‘arts audience’ but as a vital contribution to society on all fronts.”
The Stove and its associated projects (eg the Midsteeple Quarter, Creative Futures) are attracting national attention. The establishment of a new enterprise agency for the South of Scotland is also opening up regional development opportunities within the Creative Industries sector and the Stove is at the centre of those discussions
The Board provides the governance framework for the Stove as an arts-led community development trust. While we have formal responsibilities to fulfil, we seek to do this creatively and in an engaged and committed way and we are looking for new members to help us and the team in our mission. We are looking for up to 3 new board members including a new treasurer. We are also particularly interested to hear from people with experience in HR, Legal, Planning and Development. Equalities and diversity are very important to us and we’d welcome interest from anyone from minority or excluded groups in our community.
The Board meets 6 times each year and we also have an annual board-team Awayday where we look creatively at new opportunities and directions. Beyond that it really is up to you what you contribute. You may have specific expertise in say HR or project management which can support the team. You may have direct arts or creative industries experience to bring to the table, or you may simply have a passion for change and seeing communities realise and release their potential. Whatever your reasons or experience, if you are interested in us, we would love to hear from you.
If you would like to find out more, you can visit our Website where you will see more on what we do and how we do it. You can also get a feel for current programme activity through our Twitter and Facebook accounts.
The next step is simple. If you are interested or would simply want to find out more, please drop an email to the Board Chair, Tony Fitzpatrick with notes on what has caught your attention and what you would like to bring to the table and team Stove. From there we will arrange for an informal discussion over coffee, tea or non-caffeine alternatives.
