The Stove is seeking a young person (25 or under and living in or with a connection to Dumfries and Galloway) with an interest in building a career in the music/arts world to undertake music stage management at this years Nithraid.
Nithraid is a community-led River Festival beside and on Dumfries’ River Nith. (see http://www.thestove.org/nithraid/) The small acoustic stage that is held as part of this festival is a showcase of up and coming talent from the town. The past years have included regulars from Brave New Words (The Stove’s monthly open mic night for words both spoken and sung) and other local musicians usually acoustic solo acts or duos. Through this opportunity you will work with members of the Nithraid team to gain experience of all aspects of running a music stage at a festival, including: programming, design/build, marketing, sound engineering and equipment hire.
Nithraid 2018 will take place on Saturday 11th August. This role will run from 28th June until 18th August. Your role will include a half day of work per week in the lead up to the event with two days for set up of the event, one day for the event, one day for take down with an additional half day to debrief. There will be extra opportunities to integrate and learn through this opportunity and the applicant is encouraged to make use of this as a way of building further possibilities for themselves.
You will be supported in developing and realising your ideas by Euan Macrory who undertook a similar internship in 2016 and now programs events both as part of the blueprint100 Curatorial Team and other festivals such as Moniaive Folk Festival.
There is a fee of £500 for this role alongside a small budget available for performance fees, stage production and sound support (some travel expenses may also be covered)
