The Stove would like to commission an emerging artist* to join our Nithraid team this Summer. This is an exciting opportunity for a young person to get involved directly with the Stove’s project, and our festival delivery team.
Nithraid River Festival is an annual event celebrating Dumfries’ relationship with the River Nith. Due to the impact of COVID-19, instead of holding our festival on the Mill Green, we will be hosting an extended celebration of the River Nith across our online platforms.
In 2020, our virtual festival will journey down the River Nith from its source near New Cumnock to the river’s mouth at Carsethorn; engaging with different towns, villages and communities along the way with a 3-month program of activities, artworks, literature, music, information sharing and storytelling entitled from Source To Sea.
On August 22nd our virtual festival site will go live with storytelling, live music, family activities and interactive workshops, celebrating our River Nith.
The selected artist will re-interpret one of the elements from our usual festival – this could be The Salty Coo (our festival mascot), the procession, the sailing boats or sailing community or something else entirely, we would expect to develop this with the selected artist as part of their commission with us. The selected artists will explore three key themes as part of this years festival:
- 1. Connection
- 2. Wildlife
- 3. Community
We anticipate that the outcome of this commission could be a digital work, e.g. an animation, or film piece, or a physical work or live performance that can be recorded to be shared online, e.g. a solo procession, a sculptural or sound work.
