Signs and Symbols
Signs and Symbols was one of four permanent public art works commissioned as part of the Lochside Public Art Project. The open call was awarded to Kat Loudon of Design by Zag, a Glasgow based design studio that spans across the fields of design, education and community engagement.
Signs and Symbols, which was unveiled in 2019, features a series of three brightly coloured pavement artworks, across two pathways and a turning circle at the bottom of Meadow Gardens. The designs were developed using iconography built up during public workshops in the area and studio development, including workshops at Lochside Primary, Lochside Gala, and on-site in The Meadows housing estate.
Also as part of the project, Kat worked with graffiti artist Marco Piacentini to create a large mural work for the Lochside Community Centre, inspired by the local groups’ aspiration to have a Nature And Nurture Area, (NANA’s park) at the edge of Glentrool.
Lochside Public Art Project was managed by The Stove Network for Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership, as part of the completion of The Meadows new housing.
