About Reel to Real Cinema

Reel to Real Cinema is the Stove Cafe’s monthly film night. One Friday each month we present a unique and undiscovered cinematic gem as part of our programme, from documentary to artist made shorts, independent to international film. At the heart of our cinema space we aim to bring people together to share food, film and discussion.

Our Programme

We like to think of Reel to Real as a kind of ‘pop-up’ cinema on the High Street. We reckon film has the ability to challenge, inspire and motivate us into thinking about our world, and how we’d like it to be. It’s also a way of gaining new insights and perspectives on a whole range of topics and issues from climate, to race, economy and culture. As such, our programme endeavours to showcase and promote a diverse range of filmmakers and stories.

Visiting Reel to Real

Reel to Real Cinema currently takes place in The Stove Cafe at 100 High Street, Dumfries. We are a small scale and intimate venue for up to 30 audience members, focusing on alternative film including documentary, art house and international film.

Reel to Real is a welcoming and informal space, and works in partnership with The Stove Cafe to provide an evening cafe with pre-film supper and drinks options.

Our tickets are offered on a pay-what-you-can system, we suggest a donation of £4 for in person screenings, but audiences are welcome to pay what they can in our anonymous donations box. Alternatively, you can support Reel to Real Cinema by visiting our donation page.

In 2021, Reel to Real Cinema was been supported by Cinema for All’s Sustain Shine training programme.
