A House on the High Street is an artist film, commissioned by The Stove Network to place the opening of The Stove building to the public in March 2016 within the wider context of the changing role town centres. The film, made by filmmaker and artist John Wallace, explores the history of the building and surrounding area and asks questions about the role of the ‘High Street’ in 21st century towns in Scotland.

A House on the High Street was first screened in March 2016. It has since had multiple screenings in various venues around the town as part of our Living on the High Street project and been become a rallying point for the community partnership project ‘Midsteeple Quarter’ which proposes a High Street block as a means of re-populating Dumfries Town Centre.
