Nithraid 2018
2018 saw the biggest Nithraid yet! Taking place at the earlier date of Saturday, 11th August, this years Nithraid included two boat races, one for Coastal Rowing boats, and a second for sailing boats. The sailing race was won by Nithraid founder Mark Zygadlo, and his crew member Stuart.
The Nithraid Village ran across the Mill Green throughout the afternoon with workshops in up-cycling, zine and badge making, Chinese lanterns, stone carving, mosaics and Matisse-inspired collage amongst many others. Activities continued into the evening with Nithraid Nighttime, including film screenings, live music and dancing led by Soundsystems, storytelling from Mostly Ghostly and fresh pizza.
2018 saw a new artwork commissioned for the day in the Dock Park, inspired by the Rosefield Mills by Double Down Disco, with a pop-up dance floor and new beats and tracks inspired by the historic mill buildings past.
The procession was led by the creative duo Madjakkals, with support on the day from young people as part of the Amaze Me Leader project. In the run up to the event the Madjakkals held movement and making workshops creating geometric shapes and patterns delivered to the Mill Green in the form of a large play sculpture!
