A dynamic micro-festival featuring discussions, workshops, and film, unveiling the radical spirit of grassroots print, illustration, and journalism in Scotland.

Experience a fusion of hands-on techniques and cutting-edge digital processes led by inspiring thinkers, writers, and artists from across the country.

Off the Margin aims to ignite questions and discussions, rekindling Dumfries’ connection with its vibrant printing heritage.

Off The Margin is a key component of the WWDN Digital Programme, a network initiative supporting member organisations to enhance their digital capabilities. This is achieved through a blend of in-person and online activities.

A History of Printing in Dumfries with objects

7:00pm – 8:30pm @ Dumfries Museum

Find out about the earliest printmakers in Dumfries, the role of newspapers in the town’s history and explore our latest exhibition ‘Fighting for Justice: Strikes and Protests in Dumfries 1770-1920’.

Organised as part of The Stove Network’s ‘Off the Margin: Micro Festival’, this special evening event will include a short talk and tour of the exhibition by Museum Curator, Judith Hewitt as well as an opportunity to have a closer look at some objects relating to the history of printing in the town.

Imprints in Time

Film Screening & Discussion

Artist John Wallace presents a re-staging of his documentary and site-specific video installation, “Imprints In Time,” delving into the rich history of printing in Dumfries Town Centre, with a focus on the former Dinwiddies retail shop and Printworks. The event includes a screening followed by a discussion featuring invited speakers from grassroots journalism and print in Scotland, along with prominent figures from the printing industry in Dumfries.

Off The Margin: Print Zone Drop-in Space

From cynotype printing to using environmentally safe ink and designing your own tote bag, our Loreburn Centre space will be housing local artist Emily Tough and Elizabeth Stephenson as well as practitioners from ‘Out of the Blueprint’ an Edinburgh based eco print studio.
